Honouring the Legacy of Ray Sturgeon (1938–2023)

Founder, Mentor, and Colleague

It is with deep respect and gratitude that Allied Support Services International Group (ASSIG) remembers its founder, mentor, and colleague, Ray Sturgeon. Ray’s leadership, vision, and commitment to service established the foundation on which ASSIG continues to operate today.

Ray began his career in the Canadian Armed Forces, where he served with distinction and developed a lasting respect for discipline, collaboration, and excellence in service. Following his military career, he represented Canada within NATO, contributing to multinational initiatives that advanced allied cooperation and institutional readiness. He later held senior roles in the private sector, including with BAE Systems, where he helped strengthen relationships between industry and defence institutions.

In 2010, Ray founded ASSIG with a clear purpose — to help qualified suppliers engage responsibly and effectively within the NATO, EU, and allied procurement ecosystems. His approach was guided by professionalism, transparency, and a belief that meaningful collaboration between government and industry strengthens collective security.

Colleagues and partners remember Ray not only for his strategic insight, but for his integrity, humility, and care for others. He was a mentor to many, combining intellectual rigour with a genuine commitment to helping people grow in their roles and responsibilities.

Today, ASSIG continues to uphold the principles he established — readiness, integrity, and partnership. Ray’s influence remains present in every engagement, reflected in the organization’s commitment to supporting both institutional objectives and the growth of capable, trusted industry partners.

Ray’s leadership endures through the values he instilled and the example he set. His life and work continue to guide ASSIG’s mission: to contribute responsibly to allied security through professionalism, collaboration, and respect for service.
